Troubleshooting: Network connectivity issues impacting more than one system

Network connectivity can impact users being able to complete their work or assignments.  The lack of network connectivity can be determined at Fuqua if you can not successfully log in to a MBA Computing Space workstation or assigned office computer for staff, faculty or PhD students or unable to access your network drives [G (group), H (personal), or I (all Fuqua users)] even after a successful login.

Troubleshooting
The first step that should be taken to rectify this problem is to reboot the computer.  Make sure that all work is saved before restarting the system.  Simply logging off will not accomplish everything needed so a full restart of the computer is required.  Once the computer has restarted you should be able to login and reach your network drives.

If you are not able to reach your network drives after restarting the computer you should take the appropriate step below:

  • Student – Move to another computer in the lab or another team room to see if you can login and access your network drives.
  • Faculty, Staff or PhD – Check to ensure that the yellow network cord that attached to the rear of your computer is firmly connected and is also firmly connected to the wall socket.  You may remove and reinsert the cable to ensure a good connection.  Try to login in to your system and access your network drives.

If the troubleshooting does not restore network connectivity you should report the problem to the Technical Support Center at 660-7878 or help@fuqua.duke.edu.

Alternatives
If you are not able connect via a computer at Fuqua you can try accessing your data via FTP.  Using FTP through Internet Explorer will allow you to access and manipulate your files just like you would using Windows Explorer.  FTP instructions can be found at the link below.

PhD students, staff and faculty may save data to their local hard drives until connectivity is restored.  PhD students should always save to their D: Drive when unable to save to network storage.  MBA students should save to a USB drive or print their work since the local hard drive is not available
