In an effort to combat the numerous virus/worm/attacks circulating throughout the Internet, many major Internet Service Providers (ISP), including Time-Warner, have implemented temporary stop measures on their systems. In the Triangle, Time-Warner is blocking certain Internet traffic on their equipment. The result of this security tactic may be that home systems cannot access Fuqua services over the Internet. For example, if you have been using the H: drive from home and your ISP has blocked traffic that happens to travel in the same space, you will no longer have access to your H: drive from home. The same is true for the I: and G: drives.
Fortunately, the Information Technology group at Fuqua has recently implemented additional security systems. These systems include a Virtual Private Network (VPN) that allows Fuqua faculty, staff, and students with home and mobile systems to connect safely and securely to all Fuqua network resources. Fuqua home and mobile users will need to use this technology to establish secure connections between their home/mobile systems (PCs, laptops, tablets, etc.) and FuquaNet resources. These users will need to load a remote connectivity client on their home or mobile computers called "FuquaNet @ Home/Mobile". By connecting using this software, you will create a Virtual Private Network or tunnel through the internet to FuquaNet from your home or mobile system. This tunnel will provide encryption for any data sent to or received from the Fuqua environment while you have FuquaNet @ Home/Mobile running on your system.
The Technical Support Center is prepared to help our Fuqua home/mobile users install the Fuqua VPN. In order to obtain the software required for the Fuqua VPN, please visit our technology support website:
http://it.fuqua.duke.edu
You will find detailed instructions on installing and using the Fuqua VPN client. NOTE: CD copies of the FuquaNet @ Home/Mobile client software and
instructions are available in the TSC. Please feel free to call, and we will deliver a copy to your office. If you have any questions concerning this or other technical issues, contact us via email at tsc-help@fuqua.duke.edu or call us at (919) 660-7878.
