Over the past few weeks, we have seen an increase in virus/worm activity on the Internet. There are steps that you can take to immediately reduce your risk of having your system compromised. 1) Load Antivirus software and load the latest virus signature data files. Duke's Office of Information Technology (OIT) has a software site that contains McAfee Antivirus software: http://www.oit.duke.edu/site/software.html 2) Using "Windows Update" from your system, visit Microsoft's Update site and install all of the critical system patches and service packs. "Windows Update" is located under the "tools" menu in Internet Explorer. It is very important that you follow these steps for a new system purchased in the past month as well as existing systems.
