If you are a user, or might be a user of Seminar Room space, please review the following summary of plans for Seminar Room C as well as the other East Seminar Rooms. We have also set aside funds for improvement to Seminar 1 and 2 in the Magat Center.
I'm interested in any feedback, suggestions, or concerns you may have about the plans. If you would like to be involved in finalizing details or discussing needed functionality, please call me at 660-1998, or reply to this email.
Thanks,
Tim

AV Status of Seminar Rooms at Fuqua
There are ten "seminar rooms" located in our facilities. These rooms have a variety of uses and users. They are also outfitted for AV presentation in a variety of ways. You may be a user of any of these spaces at some point, so your input would be valuable as we consider improvements.
Seminar A
Currently has a "SmartBoard" system that allows projection from computer, laptop or VCR. An overhead projector and screen are located in the room.
Seminar C
Currently has no AV equipment. This space was recently converted from a Computer Lab back to a Seminar Room.
Seminars B, D, E and F
Currently have data projector in ceiling and equipment rack on wall in corner of room to allow projection of computer and VCR. Also have built-in video capture system and microphones in the ceiling, which are routed to a VHS record deck. There is currently a traditional overhead projector in each of these rooms.
Seminars G & H
These rooms were outfitted as they were created with the addition of the Fox Center. They have consoles and systems similar to the current MBA classroom consoles. Seminar G is a larger seminar room and has two projectors and screens, allowing dual projection.
Seminar 1
Faculty Seminar Room. Currently has a projector in the ceiling connected to a networked PC on a cart at the front of the room and a VCR that is located in the front wall cabinet. There is a switch box that allows connection for a laptop. There are speakers in the front wall for audio from either PC or VCR.
Seminar 2
PhD Seminar Room. Currently has a projector installed in the ceiling connected to a networked PC on a cart at the side of the room.
Upgrade plans for Seminar Rooms A and C
BACKGROUND: Management Communications is the primary user of the Seminar Room Spaces located above the MBA Classrooms. All Daytime students take a Management Communications class during their first year (currently Term 2). A course is also offered to Second Years in Term 4. During the summer, Management Communications offers a "Summer Institute" to incoming international students here as well. These rooms are also used for miscellaneous special events as well as smaller elective classes and seminars. Seminar Rooms B, D, E & F have been outfitted to meet the teaching needs of Management Communications. However, the equipment is aging and will need upgrading in the near future. Seminar A was previously the "Faculty Seminar Room" until the opening of the Magat Center. We currently have a "SmartBoard" system in this room to allow data and video projection. Seminar C has been a computer lab until the recent opening of the new Main Lab above the Ford Library.
We intend to deploy AV systems in Seminar Rooms A and C, which are based on the most recent teaching console design in the MBA Classrooms. The plan is to fabricate consoles with a similar look and feel to the classroom consoles but with the following differences:
Slightly smaller . Eliminate the surface to the right of the digital overhead and shorten the front ledge. There will be a locked rack on the wall, near the console, that will house equipment that does not require operation by users.
The console will be on wheels . It will be located at the far right corner as you enter the room. It will be on a short tether. This will allow the console to either swing out and face the room, or swing out of the way and face the wall.
Smaller touchpanel. This will be a smaller version of the Crestron control we have in the classrooms -- similar functionality as the classroom touchpanel, but not able to double as the computer display.
The functionality deployed in each space will include the following:
· Capture system that includes a camera at back of room, microphones in ceiling and two VHS record decks
· Projector to display onto a motorized screen at the end of the room
· Available sources for display and audio reinforcement which includes:
o Networked computer, with wireless remote
o Laptop input
o Auxiliary audio/video input
o VHS VCR
o DVD player
o Digital overhead (same model as used in classrooms)
Upgrade plans for Seminar Rooms 1 and 2
We are currently looking for input on how to best outfit these two spaces. As a note, when we renovate Seminar A, we will free up the SmartBoard system that is currently in this room. We can look at reassigning it as a tool in a variety of places, (Seminar 1, Seminar 2, University Room at the Thomas Center, Faculty Lounge, etc.). There is likely to be some place that it would be useful, or some place where its more interactive nature can be utilized or leveraged by potential users. There have been a number of inquiries about including this sort of technology in the teaching space, but very little actual use in its current location.
