You may have seen some flyers or communications over the past month from
Duke's IT Security Office regarding distribution of copyrighted
materials. These communications from the University are primarily
targeted at students who may violate copyright through misuse of
music-sharing capabilities. There may be other questions regarding
teaching or research materials at Duke, and whether these materials are
within the guidelines of fair use.
Here at Fuqua you can direct copyright questions regarding fair use or
the need to obtain permission to Meg Trauner in our Ford Library. While
IT is sometimes thrust in the middle of copyright issues since the RIAA
and other policing organizations send any violation notices through the
University's information security officer, we are not experts on
copyright rules and practices. Meg and I wanted to complement the Duke postings/awareness campaign with this "go to" resource for copyright
questions as a more appropriate approach for Fuqua constituents.
Please contact Meg directly at 660-7869 if you have questions about use
of copyrighted materials.
Thanks.
