Update on E-mail performance problems

Duke’s Office of Information Technology (“OIT”) continues to move aggressively to make upgrades to the hardware and software e-mail infrastructure that supports the bulk of e-mail users throughout the Duke community.

The Duke E-mail service will be unavailable from midnight to 8:00am this Sunday, December 2 while Duke’s OIT implements necessary upgrades.  Users of the University’s e-mail system will be unable to check their e-mail during this time, and no e-mail forwarding will occur.

The Fuqua Technical Support Center is concerned with the speed and effectiveness of the e-mail services our users rely upon, and we continue to monitor the situation closely so that we can pass along any important information in a timely manner.

Until these e-mail performance issues are completely resolved, the Fuqua TSC would like to encourage all users to minimize work disruptions by taking advantage of the collaborative tools that are available to all Fuquans:

  • Fuquaworld, Career Compass and Course websites are an efficient way to keep up to date on course events and important student activities.
  • Meeting Maker is a convenient way for people to call and arrange meetings throughout Fuqua.
  • Team Tools provide an easy to use document sharing platform for study groups or faculty or staff workgroups.
  • Filesharing on the G: drive, I: drive and H: drive  remain reliable alternatives to store and share information.

We realize that many users rely upon timely and efficient e-mail services to arrange meetings, exchange important documents, and receive scheduling reminders. Until the e-mail services are performing at the highest level possible, remember that the Fuqua community has reliable, redundant and easy-to-use alternatives for these important business processes.

Please contact the TSC if you need any assistance in adapting to these “e-mail challenges”, or with any other questions or concerns.
