Fuqua makes use of the e-mail services provided by Duke's Office of Information Technology ("Duke OIT"). Duke's email system provides each user with a 100 mb Inbox.
Fuqua recommends that students use the Thunderbird E-mail client program. It is simple, reliable and very easy to learn. Information on how to download and install Thunderbird can be found at the MBA Software Downloads page.
Some students may also choose to use other e-mail clients. It is important to understand that using other e-mail clients(ie; MS Outlook, Outlook Express, or other e-mail clients) is permissable, but it is not required and will not confer any special advantages to MBA students in the Fuqua computing environment. When configuring any e-mail client, the following settings are required:
Managing Passwords & E-mail Accounts Using Online@Duke and your NetID, you can set individual preferences for your @duke.edu e-mail address indicating how the system should handle suspicious messages. You can also set vacation messages, check your mail quota, create e-mail forwarding and change your password.
Accessing E-mail from outside of Fuqua When accessing E-mail from any PC or laptop outside the Fuqua domain, including wireless laptops within Fuqua, students should first log in to the Fuqua VPN. If you continue to have trouble reading or sending emails, contact the TSC for assistance.
Fixing the "Send e-mail function" in Mulberry
There is a slight misconfiguration within Mulberry. This quick-fix only needs to be performed once in the Main Lab, and from that point forward, Mulberry should work correctly:
Go to "File" and select "Preferences". Select the "Accounts" tab. Change the "Account:" from IMAP to SMTP. Change "Secure:" to SSLv3. Click on the "Advanced" button to expand the viewable options.
Setting up a signature file in Thuderbird
Go to Tools>Account Settings>attach this signature check box and then choose. When you click "choose" it will take you to to the directory where you should save your signature file. Your signature file should be saved as a text file (.txt format).
Accessing the Fuqua Address Book with Thunderbird
The "Fuqua Address Book" is an LDAP protocol server that can be accessed with a properly configured Thunderbird e-mail client.
To configure your e-mail client to access the Fuqua Address Book:
- In Thunderbird, at the upper left, click on "Address Book", then: File, New, LDAP Directory
- In the "General" tab, for "Name:" type "Fuqua Address Book"
- For "Hostname", type "directory.fuqua.duke.edu"
- For "Base DN:" type "o=fuqua,c=us" (Note there are no spaces.)
- For the "Bind DN:", find your personalized "Bind DN" value in Fuquaworld and paste it into this "Bind DN" field.
Do this in 3 steps:
- In Fuquaword, use the search field to search for your own name.
- Click on the Profile link under your name
- Cut and Paste your personalized "Bind DN" value from inside your Fuquaworld profile into the "Bind DN" field in the Thruderbird configuration window.
- Select "OK"
- From the top command line in Thunderbird, now choose Tools - Account Settings.
- At the pop-up screen, click on "Composition & Addressing"
- Under "Addressing" choose "Use a different LDAP Server" and then choose "Fuqua Address Book" in the drop-down field below.
- You should now have a connection to the LDAP server and benefit from the Fuqua E-mail Address auto-complete function.
- Contact the TSC if you have any trouble with this process.
