New employees are occasionally confused by the arrary of technology resources at Fuqua. Use this guide to insure that your are prepared to work productively in the Fuqua computing environment.
Contact the Technical Support Center ("TSC") if you need assistance with any of these items. A technician from the TSC will be available to help you get adjusted to your new computer hardware and software.
New Accounts: FuquaNet and DukeNet ID
All employees require official Duke and Fuqua accounts before they can be granted access to the Fuqua network.
The process to establish new accounts begins with a request from the relevant departmental supervisor to the HR (Human Resources) department. HR then contacts the TSC to authorized the account-creation process.
Please note that the TSC cannot create accounts without the proper authorization from HR. Since the entire process can take as long as one week, the new employee who does not yet have a FuquaNet or DukeNet ID should confirm with his/her supervisor that the new employee's information has been properly submitted to the HR department.
The 4 main accounts that a new employee should become familiar with are:
FuquaNet - Your login and password will give you access to computers on the Fuqua campus. These accounts also grant access to your network drives.
Duke NetID - Your Duke NetID is a unique identifier used by Duke OIT for every duke student, including Fuqua students. The Duke NetID is also the first part of your "@duke.edu" email.

Meeting Maker - Meeting Maker is an enterprise-class scheduling tool that is available to all members of the Fuqua community. You can log in through the web here.

Computer Setup
Your technician will consult with your superviser in advance of your arrival and setup the hardware and software you will need for your job.
Most software will be completely functional upon your arrival,
some software packages will have to be configured in your first week on the job, and a few software packages may take a few more days to completely install and configure. It is normal for a new employee's PC system to not be 100% functional until the 2nd week of employment.
E-mail Setup
A technician will assist you in the setup and configuration of your e-mail on your work PC. E-mail setup might not be completed on your first day at work. In that case, you may access your email through the Duke WebMail interface.
FuquaWorld
FuquaWorld is the online web portal for the Fuqua community. FuquaWorld provides information and services that are used by all Faculty, Staff and Students at Fuqua. If you have not already done so, you should log into FuquaWorld and explore the site.
Network Drives
Each employee has access to secure and redundant network storage. These "Network Drives" can be accessed from your work PC . They are known as the "H: Drive", "G: Drive", and the "I: Drive". To work productively with your fellow staff members, you should read and understand this basic information about these network drives.
Printing
Printing services are available throughout Fuqua. Consult with your TSC technician if you are not able to print to your departmental printer.
Working from Home
Some staff occasionally need to access Fuqua-related data from home. To learn how to do this, you will have to learn how to setup the Fuqua VPN on your home system, your network drives, and perhaps also how to use Remote Desktop. (.mov file)
A TSC technician, working in conjunction with your supervisor, can help you determine which of these tools are recquired for your job.
