Creating Announcements for the Fuqua Channel (Widescreen)

To create an announcement, download the Fuqua Channel template from this page (you may need to choose to "Save file as.." to transfer this to your computer). This is a Powerpoint file.

Using the template as your guide, fill in your text in both the "Title" and "Body" areas. The size of these areas is fixed and due to display requirements, must remain as they are.

When you have created your message, save it with an appropriate name (one that refers to your announcement) and send it as an attachment via email to multimedia@fuqua.duke.edu. Please state when you would like your message posted, how long it should run, and if there are any special instructions. If possible, allow at least a day or two to receive and post your announcement, please don't wait until the last minute. If you have questions, feel free to email multimedia@fuqua.duke.edu or call the TSC at (919) 660-7878.

Your Announcement Should Adhere to Good Advertising Principles:

  • Please use a serifed typeface in your announcements. Good choices would be Times, Garamond, Bookman, or Georgia.
  • Feel free to use colored fonts, but try to limit them to neutral colors. Use colors that contrast well with the blue background. (like white, yellow, light gray, light green.) Red should be used sparingly, if at all, as it contrasts poorly with the blue background.
  • Make sure that you use a font that is large and bold enough to read. Point size of 24 to 32 or larger is recommended.
  • Try not to make your announcement too busy. To keep your posting readable, avoid having more than about a dozen words.
  • A picture or graphic can be a good eye-catcher, but too much can be a distraction.
  • Be sure that all the information you need to convey is correct.
  • Be concise - if you have lots of information, tell them where they can get it. Don't try to get it all on your Fuqua Channel announcement.
  • Consider using a "series" of announcements for upcoming events. Use different pictures or graphics. Change verbiage. Update info.
  • Preview the layout of your announcement in "slide show" mode prior to sending.
