Fuqua Hardware Recommendations

Below are the minimum requirements for a student’s laptop to enable him or her to complete course related work with minimal impact on computer performance.

Note: The Help Desk is only able to support laptops with English operating systems

  • Operating System:
    • Windows 10, 8 or 7
    • Mac OS 10.11 or later (El Capitan)
  • Processor Speed: Minimum i5 for both Windows and Mac. Preferred: i7 for both
  • Memory: 8 GB minimum, however, if buying a new laptop, we recommend maxing out the RAM
  • Hard Drive: 250 GB. Preferred: 500 GB
  • Wireless: 802.11 b/g/n

The Fuqua School of Business is currently standardized on Microsoft Office 2016 for both Windows and Macs. Windows 7 and Office 2016 are the versions installed on all classroom and lab computers. It is required that all students have this version of Office installed on their computers. The software is available as a free download to all students. More information on how to obtain and install this software is available on the software page.

Note: If you are considering switching from a PC to a Mac, remember you’re about to embark on a very intense time in your life. Now is not necessarily a good time to start learning a new operating system. In other words, if you are currently a PC user and are not familiar with working with a Mac and its software, now may not be the best time to start.

Incoming Student Laptop Configuration

It is required of all students to configure their own laptops prior to the first day of their
orientation. Please find detailed instructions below:

Digital Fax Services

Fuqua’s digital fax service allows you to send electronic data (Word, PDF, Excel files, etc.) via an easy to use web interface to local and domestic long distance fax numbers without incurring any charges. Sending faxes to international fax numbers requires the use of an authorization code to allow billing to your student account.
